Very strange, I have many mixtures in me, and my wife has many others, so our two kids are really mixed up. None of us have ever had any problem.
If you don't make a big deal of your ancestry no one ever pays any attention to it.
In America, I'd rather be a Heinz mixture, than to call myself an Italian, or a greek, etc. as some people do. There is nothing wrong with being all American.
When my father or his brothers would ask granddad where he was from, he would say, " I'm here in America now, this is where I'm from".
It's harder for us to socialize with people that comes from a specific background because they are taught to follow certain rules or behaviors by their parents. So, when they face someone else's culture, their capacity to understand how cultural differences don't make us really that different is limited.
We tend to be open minded because we know about so many things from different places and people. But they are incapable of doing this. My advice to you is that if you feel left out try not to think of it as a problem but as an opportunity. Having different backgrounds gives you the possibility to get along with lots of people. Instead of trying to fit in in a group, try to build your own.
GOOD LUCK
Well, I'm Heinz 57. I'm Choctaw, Irish, and German. When people see me and my mother in an Indian clinic, they can tell where our blood is from. However, when my redheaded sister comes to the same Indian clinic for an appointment, they ask to see proof of Choctaw heritage. Many people have wondered how I can have dark, pin straight hair and large, dark, slanted eyes, yet my skin is alabaster white, and will not tan (most make the wrong assumption that I have Asian blood). My mother has dark skin and dark hair. My sister looks pure Irish, from the red hair to the freckles. I was pretty much to myself in school with a small circle of friends, mainly white and black. Goes to show that you can't assume anybody's race just from a quick glance. I personally don't put a tag on race, because if you think about it, everybody's a mutt at some point or another.
well I'm half Greek and i've never had problems socializing or anything, however I was raised in the US so culturally I'm as American as it gets. I don't think people should have a problem or not get along as well with someone because they are of mixed backround, thats just plain stupid! People are people no matter what their ethnicity and if you live in the US you are an American and having a diverse family heritage is what being an American is all about.
