I am russian immigrant. So yeah, dont worry they dont bite. Their churches differ from each other wildly, looks like you are being invited to one of the more conservative ones. So just go with the flow, like when they all stand up to pray, do the same, smile and nod whenever needed :-), and um yeah. You'll be fine.
Of course you might get a comment from a babushka (grandma) or a dedushka (grandpa) about something wrong with like whatever your wearing, but thats alright. I'm used to that, so whenever I go to one of these churches where they have strict dress code, I just kinda conform to the code and they all think I am one of them.
Just tell your kids not to pick any fights.
Well I wouldn't worry much about it. I gotta admit, a lot of Russians are racist, but not all are. Chances are, if they're living in USA, they're probably not racist. I know I'm not.
P.S. I hope you know, that you'll probably be going to an Orthodox church. Our religion is a bit different.
