What to expect + if I should bring something to a Russian Christian svc. in the Sacramento, CA area?

I was invited by our russian neighbors to their church service tomorrow. I asked if I should bring anything and was told to just bring myself and wear a long dress. They are such super, nice people and I really haven't had much opportunity to meet many russian ppl. other than the ones i meet briefly @the delis (i love the salads, breads and cakes). of course I've seen the news about immigrants sometimes getting attacked in russia and I'm not fearful for myself, but I'm wondering if my kids will be treated ok (they're ages 6 + 4 yrs and a 4 mos. old) b.c. they're of mixed ethnicity. I'm 25% each of dutch, indonesian, black and native american and married a red headed guy (he's actually of egyptian descent. I'm not kidding. he really has red hair and fair skin!)so we all look like "other" for nationality since there's a range of colors btwn. us all. I'm just wondering b.c. I've seen russian women date out of their race but russian men I've rarely seen date women out of their race.

I am russian immigrant. So yeah, dont worry they dont bite. Their churches differ from each other wildly, looks like you are being invited to one of the more conservative ones. So just go with the flow, like when they all stand up to pray, do the same, smile and nod whenever needed :-), and um yeah. You'll be fine.

Of course you might get a comment from a babushka (grandma) or a dedushka (grandpa) about something wrong with like whatever your wearing, but thats alright. I'm used to that, so whenever I go to one of these churches where they have strict dress code, I just kinda conform to the code and they all think I am one of them.

Just tell your kids not to pick any fights.

Well I wouldn't worry much about it. I gotta admit, a lot of Russians are racist, but not all are. Chances are, if they're living in USA, they're probably not racist. I know I'm not.

P.S. I hope you know, that you'll probably be going to an Orthodox church. Our religion is a bit different.

Peace.

Haha, I agree with the second answer. Watch out for babushka's, other than, you should be fine.
